Happy Wednesday!

Today, our awesome specialist Tim Blake wants to share some information with you about a great local service being provided by the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts at Old Salem Museums & Gardens.

MESDA has an entire YouTube playlist of “Closer Look” videos which examine artifacts and exhibits from the museum’s collection in detail. (Hint: this is a great way to do a homeschool history lesson with your kids, too!)

Here’s an example of one of their videos:

You can also explore the entire Old Salem collection here, as well as access wonderful articles about the rich history of Old Salem. This month, they are featuring an article on rugs as bed coverings from the Journal of Early Southern Decorative Arts.

Finally, MESDA is recommending a wonderful documentary series on PBS called “Craft in America.” MESDA points out that the episode on quilts might be of special interest, and we can’t wait to watch it. If you’ve seen it, let us know what you thought!

Thank you for this awesome information on a great resource in our own neighborhood, Tim! We can’t wait to visit Old Salem again, but in the meantime, this is a great way to feel connected to our community. If you are able, please make a donation to MESDA or Old Salem as a thank you for providing such wonderful content and experiences.
