Happy Friday!

Today marks the end of our first week back in the office full-time. It’s been nice to reintroduce some normalcy to our days, even as we continue to maintain social distance with coworkers, disinfect regularly, and wash our hands more often.

As our office is closed to the public and we have to continue to maintain social distance from each other and our consumers, we’re unable to conduct any face to face meetings. We are here to help, and here’s how we’re going to continue to make a difference everyday.

  1. We’re available by phone and email.
Whether you’re a new or returning consumer, we can offer you information, referrals, and support. We use technology to set goals, discuss strategies for success, encourage self-advocacy, and assist you in planning for your future. We are your peers, living with our own, varied disabilities.

  2. We’re making changes to work under current governmental guidelines.
One staff member worked with a consumer over the phone and internet to successfully assist them in getting a state identification card. Another staff member conducted assessments for home modifications. The specialist was able to communicate with the consumer inside the home via cell phone, and he also used his phone to take photos, which can be sent to our community partners seeking assistance where possible. While we miss meeting directly with consumers and the agencies we are fortunate to partner with in our community, utilizing technology means we can continue to go out and work safely in the areas we service.

If you have a need, give us a call and let us figure out if and how we can meet it. We don’t have all the answers, but we invite your questions and welcome the opportunity to meet challenges in order to keep meeting our mission of supporting the independence of people with disabilities.

  3. We’re looking toward the future.
COVID-19 has not only changed the way we work, it’s changed the needs of many of our consumers. We’re confident that we will be able to provide services in ways that meet those needs. We continue to believe in consumer choice, consumer expertise, and community-based living, and we will work with consumers to identify and pursue goals that lead to greater independence.

We are committed to using advocacy, education, and public awareness — along with healthy doses of creativity and compassion — to move forward with our consumers towards a better tomorrow. We are in this together.
