The Federal Government is moving millions of dollars for new housing opportunities for people with disabilities. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is spending $77 million dollars to subsidize over 8000 housing vouchers for people with disabilities. The funds were made available by the CARES Act and will be known as the Section 811 Mainstream Housing Choice Voucher Program. The new housing vouchers will help more individuals with disabilities remain in community based housing as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. This money will be administered to local housing authorities and HUD suggest housing agencies partner with local health and human service organizations to provide community services and supports.
